CAPE VINCENT, N.Y. — Charles A. Hutchings, 82, Bedford Corners Road, Cape Vincent, died August 16, at Carthage Area Hospital.
Born May 16, 1928, in Watertown, the son of Arthur and Bessie Gilbo Hutchings, he attended local school.
Mr. Hutchings worked as a custodian for JC Penney Co. Watertown, and later for Thousand Island Central School for 20 years.
He married Eleanor R. Joslin on October 2, 1948, at Asbury United Methodist Church, Watertown. Mr. and Mrs. Hutchings, lived in Cape Vincent and owned horses which they raced at Vernon Downs, N.Y. Mrs. Hutchings died Oct. 27, 2008
Surviving are three sons and a daughter-in-law, John San Bernardino, Calif., Douglas, Watertown and Philip and Angela, Goshen, Idaho.; a daughter, Marilyn Hutchings, Cape Vincent; a sister Laura Raines, W.Va.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
A daughter, Carol Gray, died before him.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday, August 20, at the Cleveland Funeral Home, with burial in Brookside Cemetery, Watertown. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, at the Cleveland Funeral Home, Cape Vincent.
Donation may be given in his memory to American Heart Association.
