Birth: Jun. 13, 1907 Death: Sep. 27, 1998 Lester Gerkin, 91, of Bedford, died Sunday at the Bedford Hospitality House.Born June 13, 1907, in Martin County, he was the son of William and Kathryn (Bowden) Gerkin.He owned and operated Gerkin's Garage, which he opened in 1952. He was a member of Southland Church of Christ.Survivors include his wife, Mary M. (Harp) Gerkin ; two daughters, Elsie Mullis and Barbara Fish, both of Bedford; 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by one sister, Bessie Chilton; and six brothers, Faye Gerkin, Herschel Gerkin, Ed Gerkin, Claude Gerkin, Albert Gerkin and Luke Gerkin.Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Day & Carter Mortuary in Bedford with the Rev. Steve Douglas officiating. Burial will be at Beech Grove Cemetery. The Herald-Times, September 28, 1998
