TAKEN BY DEATH
Illness Fatal to Aged Widow
--Funeral to be Thursday--
Mrs. Sarah Ann Beck, 94, widow of John B. Beck, and one of the oldest residents of the couty, died at 4 o'clock this morning at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Bernice Hancher, 924 Third Street. Death followed a long illness. Funeral Services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Hathaway Funeral home. The Rev. P.M. Smith of this city will have charge. Burial will be made in City cemetery. The casket will be open tonight and until time of the funeral. Mrs. Beck was born in Brown county in 1845. Her maiden name was Sarah Ann Phillips and she was the last survivor of a large family. She was married to John Benton Beck in 1860 and they located at Beck's Grove, which was named for them. They built the first house there and for a number of years operated a general store and the postoffice. In 1888 they moved to Columbus, Mr. Beck taking employment with Dunlap & Co. where he worked for many years. He died 12 years ago(?) Since his death Mrs. Beck had made her home with relatives and for the past 7 years had been at Mrs. Hancher's home. Mrs. Beck was a member of the Christian church at Beck's Grove, of which her father was the first minister. She was well known and was a well liked woman. Surviving are a son, John Beck of this city; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Giltner and Mrs. Laura Butler of Indianapolis; 14 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Sarah Ann Beck, age ninety-four, of Columbus, who lived in Seymour while her son, John Beck, operated a restauant here for five years, died at 4 o'clock tuesday morning at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Bernice Hanacher, 924 Third Street, Columbus. Death followed a long illness. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock thursday afternoon from the Hathaway funeral home, Columbus. The Rev. P.M. Smith of Columbus, will have charge.
